Using Wixie with an LTI 1.1 Service
Many LMS services use Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) as a way to link external tools to the LMS. This page provides instructions for using LTI to create a single sign-on (SSO) connection to Wixie from within several common LMS tools.
Use the links provided to get the most up-to-date instructions from the service. If your service is not listed try Googling "setting up an LTI tool in ... ".

Configure a Basic External Tool Provider
Administrator Instructions
Global LTI Configuration
Navigate to System Admin -> Building Blocks -> Basic LTI Tool Providers -> Register Provider Domain.
- Provider Domain: enter your custom Wixie domain. This will look something like: yourschool.wixie.com.
- Make sure the Provider Domain is "Approved."
- For Alternate Provider Domains, enter "wixie.com".
- Under Default Configuration, check the "Set globally" option for this domain.
- Enter the Tool Provider Key and Tool Provider Secret that you find on your Wixie admin "Accounts" page.
- Under Institutional Policies, Wixie recommends checking all three options for "User Fields to Send."
- Save changes.
- Note: Depending on your version of Blackboard, you may have to navigate to System Admin -> Course Settings -> Course Tools and ensure the Wixie LTI tool is set to "Enabled."
Placement Configuration - Make sure you've completed the global LTI configuration above.
- Go to the LTI Tool Providers page, and click "Manage Placements."
- Click "Create Placement."
- Type a Label. This will be the name that appears in your Build Content menu. (Ex. "Wixie”)
- Add a Handle. This must be unique in your database.
- Select "Content Type."
- Select "Build Content (Create)."
- Upload an icon for this Placement if you wish. Image you can use: https://static.wixie.com/images-static/app_icons/icon-hd.png
- Type the tool provider information.
- Use the same Key and Secret you used for the global LTI configuration.
- The URL is "https://yourschool.wixie.com/lti/" (Your Wixie supplied custom domain).
- Click "Submit."

Navigate to Content Area -> Build Content.
- Select "Wixie" from the menu.
- Save.

Navigate to Admin Tools -> External Learning Tools -> Manage External Learning Tool Links -> and click "New Link".
- Title: Wixie
- URL: "https://yourschool.wixie.com/lti/" (Your Wixie supplied custom domain).
- Check the box that says "Allow users to view this link."
- Select the radio button for "Link Key/Secret."
- Enter the Key. This is supplied on the Wixie admin “Accounts” page.
- Enter the Secret. This is supplied on the Wixie admin “Accounts” page.
- Under Security Settings, make sure all boxes are checked.
To ensure that all courses can access this configuration:
- Click on "Add Org Units."
- Search for your institution's name.
- Select "All descendants of type: Course Offering."
- Save.

- Click "Add Activities."
- Click "External Learning Tools."
- Click "Wixie"
From inside a course module:
- Click "Edit."
- Click on the Quicklink button.
- Click "External Learning Tools."

Administrator Instructions
Navigate to System Administration -> Plugins -> Activity Modules -> External Tools -or- LTI, and click "Add external tool configuration."
- Name this configuration (ex. Wixie).
- For Tool Base URL, enter "https://yourschool.wixie.com/lti/" (Your Wixie supplied custom domain).
- Enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret that you find on your Wixie admin “Accounts” page.
- Check "Show tool type when creating tool instances."
- Wixie recommends selecting "Always" for the options "Share launcher's name with tool" and "Share launcher's email with tool."
- Save changes.
Instructor Instructions
Click "Add an Activity," and select "External Tool."
- Give the activity a name.
- Select "External Tool Types" and choose the "Wixie" option.
- If you wish to distinguish Wixie from other activities, you can add a WIxie icon. Enter "http://ers.tech4learning.com/img/logos/wx_icon_72.png" under "Icon URL".
- Save changes.
